Retrofit desk motor

Here we show you how to retrofit a desk with a motor. Find out how to add electric desk legs to an existing desk.

If you want to equip your desk with a motor, you will need two electric table legs. There are various manufacturers such as Linak or Baumeister & Schack. Linak has a very large number of electric motors that can be used to make desks height-adjustable.

Adapter for table frame assembly

To attach a motor to your standard desk, you first need a 3-5 mm metal plate as an adapter to screw the mounting hole pattern of the drive to the desk base.

Table feet for stability

Once you have fitted the drives to the table base, you will need the table legs (runners), which, as a wider support, contribute a great deal to the overall stability of the table. With Linak, for example, the hole patterns of the DL4S table leg often fit with the runners of many table manufacturers ex works. If this is not the case, you will need to make two adapter plates for each table to harmonise the hole patterns and make them fit.

Control unit under the table top

You can screw the controls for the desk motor directly under the desk top using a small wood screw. The small wood screws (3x 20 mm) or Spax screws can be purchased from local hardware stores for a few cents.

Cable assembly

After you have screwed the control unit under the desk top, you can fix the cables underneath the desk using cable ties. The cables and plugs are twist-proof and can only be plugged in one way. You can hardly go wrong.

Operation

Once you have successfully completed the cable assembly, all you need to do is position the wired handset on the right or left side of the desk and screw it in place. You can then raise and lower the table electrically. Operation by remote control or APP is also possible.
